Bunnies beware - men of OSU are here
Note: This news story relates to a male calendar not published by the current publishers of "Campus Men." This news story is offered for its historical value.
First there were the "Men of the Big Ten" in Playgirl Magazine and the Men of Michigan calendar. Now there are the "Men of OSU," who some think are better looking than the men from Michigan.
Hair designer Evelyn Moore looked for talent, personality and good looks when she was on campus last spring scouting for Men of OSU 1983 calendar.
After six months of interviews, eliminations and endless photography sessions, the $6.95 calendar featuring Moore's version of the 12 best-looking men on campus is finished and available local bookstores, Zips services at 14 East 13th Ave. and the Hair Hunters Salon at 2 East 13th Ave.
"I got the idea to put the calendar together after watching PM Magazine when they're doing a feature on men at Michigan," Moore said.
"A friend of mine got a copy of the calendar for me and I decided we had better looking men than that on campus. After all, Buckeye men are No. 1." she added
Moore said she also wanted to help correct the underrated image of Columbus and its residents. "I think Columbus is full of above-average people especially on campus," she said.
Search began in March
Last March armed with a camera, Moore searched the campus to find her men walking up and down High Street and across the Oval, she said she "stopped guys who looked interesting and who caught my eye. After nearly a month, she had collected 60 photographs.
She then asked 30 woman, both students and career women -- to help her decide on the calendar finalists. With their help I got a feel for the pictures that got the most response and narrowed the choice down to 24 guys," Moore said.
With a special was near a 18 far less all were photographed locations in and around Columbus according to more from the photos we chose a 12 guys his photograph to turn out the best she said
We would capture these guys in their own elements to try to place them in a location that complemented the interests and hobbies more said instead of hiring a fashion designer to court a clothing she asked amend where something the devastated the personalities
And man for each month
Each male selected is pictured in account with a particular month of the year. His personal data, which includes his hometown, height, weight, eyes and hair color, along with future ambitions -- are listed.
The Men of OSU were honored and introduced to the public Wednesday night at the Agora, 1714 North High Street. As a special highlight, State Rep Mike Stinziano presented the men with legislative commendations "for being interesting people."
There were several women on hand to meet the men and get calendars autographed. "I though it would be fun to come and the guys over. I appreciate good-looking men," said Nadia Pawlyszyn, a junior from Seven Hills.
After purchasing the calendar, Cathy Sewek, a senior from Johnstown Pa., said she wanted to see the men in person. "They're even better looking in real life," she said.
Men like the exposure
Greg Davis, a senior from Oyster Bay, N.Y. and OSU's April man, said he was getting a haircut Hair Hunters when Moore spotted him.
I thought the idea was really neat and I've had a lot of fun. People have already started coming up to me, saying Haven't I seen somewhere before?'" he said
Earl Webb, a senior from Elyria and the July Man said "I was walking down High Street last spring when I saw this girl looking me up and down. When she told me what she was doing, I though it was a joke. It's exciting to know your face is getting shown around. Its good exposure," he said.
Because the calendar's success, Moore said plans for a "Men of OSU" 1984 calendar are being made
