Jon Marc among the 'Campus Men' on newest OSU calendar
Cambridge resident Jon Marc Tidball is, "Mr. July," in the 2001 edition of the "Campus; Men" calendar.
The calendar spotlights students from the Ohio State University where Tidball is enrolled as a senior, majoring in exercise science.
The calendar, distributed nationwide, was photographed by Sean Ashbrook this past summer. The photographs have an athletic and collegiate theme, including shots of baseball and football players along with students in dorm rooms and other campus locales. Tidball is depicted nude in a laundromat with a strategically placed laundry basket. His photo shoot was held at 7 a.m. on a weekday to avoid an audience.
Tidball is the son of Tim and Irene Tidball of Cambridge. He graduated Cambridge High School in 1997. Tidball was consistently on the high school's Honor Roll.
"We worked with Jon Marc to plan his photo shoot," Ashbrook said.
"And everyone who sees his photo loves it"
"I just kept asking myself, 'What would my mom think, if she saw me like this,"' Tidball said. I guess she doesn't have a choice now."
Appearing in the calendar is considered an honor among OSU students, Ashbrook said. He published his first calendar while he was a sophomore, living in an OSU dorm. The school's newspaper dubbed the calendar "immensely popular" when it was introduced.
While interest in being a "Campus Man" among OSU male undergrads is intense, students must be invited to appear by products. Tidball was on I e of 71 students invited to apply.
Even before the calendar was released, producers sent Tidball to 'Chicago to appear on a nationally distributed television talk show. The "Jenny Jones Show" in which he appears will air next month.
Tidball's 15 minutes of campus-wide fame has turned into, a money-maker Since being selected he has, been collecting orders for calendars, from family, friends and just about anyone who was willing to, part with the calendar's asking price of $12.95.
"Everyone I know says they want a calendar." Tidball said. "So, I have been keeping a list all summer and it is pretty long now."
The website version of the calendar, www.campusmen.com allows fans to see outtake photos of Tidball, read interviews and learn more about his life.
